Two solid earnings results are helping put the spotlight on aluminum stocks today, giving the Aluminum Stocks Index a 3.6% jolt to the upside.
Shares of Century Aluminum (NASDAQ: CENX - News) are surging 7% aw the company posted a fourth-quarter profit after reporting a loss in the year-earlier period. California-based Century Aluminum said revenue rose to $316.9 million from $256.8 million.
Rival Noranda Aluminum Holding (NYSE: NOR - News) is soaring 12% after the company said it earned 40 cents a share in the fourth quarter, excluding items, topping Wall Street estimates by 8 cents. Noranda said revenue climbed 50.2% to $344 million and that it expects higher prices to have a favorable impact on its 2011 results.
Dow component Alcoa (NYSE: AA - News), the largest North American aluminum producer, is fractionally higher while Aluminum Corporation Of China Limited (NYSE: ACH - News) is up 1%. Kaiser Aluminum (NASDAQ: KALU - News) is up 3%.
